How to look after your Yealm Kitchen

We at Yealm Kitchens have put together a useful document, detailing how to maintain your kitchen – to keep your kitchen looking brand new!

We have left some information about how to register your guarantees in your kitchen. Now most manufactures insist that the customer registers their warranty directly with the manufacturer, it is important not to forget!

Cabinetry

To clean your kitchen furniture, use a microfiber cloth with a solution of 95% warm water and 5% washing up liquid. Once you have cleaned your kitchen furniture, make sure to dry the surfaces with a dry microfiber cloth. Don’t use any harsh chemicals on the furniture.

Worktops – Quartz & Sintered Stone

The main worktops we sell are Dekton, Silestone, Caesarstone, Unistone & Classic Quartz Stone. To keep the worktop in good condition, simply use a mild (non-abrasive) cleaner with a microfiber cloth or paper towel. It is a good idea to wipe spillages up immediately to avoid any stains – highly acidic substances can discolour the stone.

Register your worktop below, to make sure you get your full guarantee;

Dekton
Silestone
Classic Quartz Stone
Caesarstone

Unistone: There is no online form to fill in, Unistone’s 10-year warranty is automatic. You will need to keep proof of purchase (Yealm Kitchens invoice) in the event of a claim. If you require more information on your warranty, please contact Brachot UK direct on 0121 382 8778.

Worktops – Wood

Wooden worktops are such a beautiful element to a kitchen, but because it is a natural material it can change with different temperatures, humidity & stain easily. Nevertheless, with the correct maintenance you can keep your wooden worktop in good condition!

Oiling

Your worktop would be finished with Ezeoil™ Urethane Oil. Information on how to re-oil your worktop can be found here (you can also purchase directly from Morrells). To maintain the quality of your worktop, you must re-oil your surface. The number of times this needs to be done, will depend on how much the worktop is used.

General Maintenance

Use a microfiber cloth with a solution of 95% warm water and 5% washing up liquid. For stubborn stains, you may want to add a little bit of lemon or vinegar. Make sure to dry the worktop after with a microfiber cloth or paper towel. It is very important to make sure your worktop is dry to avoid the wood from swelling.

What to avoid

  • Do not place hot pans or trays on the surface – this can burn or stain the worktop.
  • Do not let liquids pool on the surface or stand for a length of time – this may cause swelling in the wood or cause water marks.
  • Do not cut/chop anything directly on the worktop – this will create marks.

Worktops – Corian

If in the unlikely event that anything goes wrong with your Corian worktop. Get in contact with us at Yealm Kitchens and we will look into this for you and act accordingly.

Worktops – Granite

Granite is a 100% natural product that is very unique. Since granite is a natural material, there are no two slabs of the stone that are exactly the same.

General Maintenance

It is recommended to use a solution of 95% warm water and 5% washing up liquid on your Granite worktop. Make sure to not use anything abrasive to preserve the granite’s shiny surface. Do not use too much soap as this can create a film on the worktop, this is why the above ratio is so important.

Stains

Granite has a much higher porosity than other worktops like Quartz. Although it will have been sealed before installation, it is very important to blot the area with a paper towel straight away. Do not wipe the area as this will spread the spillage. Saturate the area with lukewarm soapy water (95% warm water and 5% washing up liquid). Then dry with a microfiber cloth. Repeat this process as necessary. For stubborn stains; use a stone poultice [A simple and safe poultice can be made by mixing 1/4 cup of baking soda with just enough water to create a paste] over the stain, then cover the stain with a clear plastic wrap, tightly sealing the edges with tape to lock out any air.

What to avoid

  • Do not place hot pans or trays on the surface – this can burn or stain the worktop.
  • Avoid using vinegar, lemon juice or other acidic substances.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners such as dry cleaners or soft cleansers.

Note, if you have a honed or brushed material, be aware that this can stain faster than a polished material.
